Training: Configuring Products with Smart Quote
Smart Quote is Velosity’s automated configuration engine. This training module demonstrates how to use its guided interface to build complex, valid products and calculate accurate costs instantly.
Why Use Smart Quote?
Traditional quoting for custom products often involves manual spreadsheets and engineering lookups. Smart Quote automates this by: - Guided Selection: Only valid options are shown based on previous selections (e.g., choosing a specific "Frame Size" might filter the available "Motor Types"). - Instant Calculations: As you select options, Velosity recalculates the Bill of Materials (BOM), the Labor Router, and the Total Price in real-time. - Error Reduction: The system prevents invalid configurations from ever reaching the shop floor. - Material Availability: When Inventory is enabled, Smart Quote compares the materials required by the BOM with their on-hand and available quantities. Shortages are shown during configuration so the team can review purchasing and lead-time options before committing to a delivery date. These quantities are an availability snapshot and are not reserved by Smart Quote.
Interactive Tutorial: Configuring a Product
The following walkthrough demonstrates the process of navigating a Smart Quote product, selecting attributes, and reviewing the generated cost.
Key Takeaways
- Attributes vs. Values: Each configurator consists of Attributes (like Color or Length) and their corresponding values.
- Finish Button: Once your configuration is complete, clicking Finish (or Add To) allows you to attach this configured item to a Quote or Order.
- Validation: If you see a warning icon, it means a required attribute hasn't been selected or a rule has been violated.
