COMPLIANCE
VELO.COMPLIANCE calculates estimated import duty, import tax, total import charges, and landed value for an item. Calculations are isolated by tenant and use the tenant's published tariff schedules.
How a calculation works
COMPLIANCE combines information from the item catalog with the shipment and commercial information supplied by the user or calling application:
| Source | Information |
|---|---|
| Item catalog | Item ID, HTS commodity code, and country of origin |
| Calculation request | Destination country, customs value, currency, and optional import date |
| Published tariff schedule | Effective rules, priorities, duty rates, and import-tax rates |
The result identifies the tariff set and rule versions used. This makes a saved result explainable even after an administrator publishes a newer schedule.
Responsibilities
COMPLIANCE owns tariff schedules, rule matching, calculations, and calculation auditing. Other applications retain their existing responsibilities:
- CORE items owns item classification and country of origin.
- CPQ owns quotes, orders, prices, quantities, destinations, and how tariff charges affect commercial totals.
- COMPLIANCE does not convert currencies, collect trade documents, or file declarations with a customs broker.
Access
Authenticated tenant users can calculate a tariff. Users with the ADMIN role can maintain tariff rule sets and review available currencies. Schedules and calculations are always scoped to the active tenant.
Main areas
| Area | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Tariff Calculator | Estimate charges for an item and import scenario. |
| Tariff Rule Sets | Review the schedules available to the tenant. |
| Currencies | Review currencies that can label calculation values. |
Tariff results are estimates based on the supplied customs value and configured rules. Confirm the classification, origin, destination, value, currency, effective date, and applicable commercial terms before using a result in a business decision.
